Ingredients
– 1 cup lentils (any color)
– 1 cup split peas
– 1 cup pearled barley
– 1 cup orzo, ditalini, or wild rice mix
– 1 tablespoon salt
– 1 tablespoon garlic powder
– 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
– 2 tablespoons parsley
– 1 teaspoon herbs de Provence or thyme
– 1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Layer lentils, split peas, barley, and orzo in each pint-sized jar to create a visually appealing gift.
2. In a small bowl, combine salt, garlic powder, onion flakes, parsley, herbs de Provence, and black pepper. Blend well.
3. Add the spice mixture to the jar on top of the grain layers.
4. Attach a gift tag with the following cooking instructions: “Add this mix to 8 cups of boiling water. Include your choice of smoked meat, such as ham or kielbasa. Simmer for approximately 45 minutes until the grains are tender.”
