Ingredients
– 2 cups warm water
– 1/4 cup sugar
– 1.5 tablespoons yeast
– 1.5 teaspoons salt
– 1/4 cup vegetable oil
– 5.5 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 teaspoons dried oregano
– 2 teaspoons dried basil
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing
Instructions
1. Dissolve sugar in warm water. Add yeast, allowing it to proof until foamy.
2. Once proofed, mix vegetable oil into the yeast mixture.
3. In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, oregano, basil, and garlic powder.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, one cup at a time, stirring until a soft dough forms.
5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
6. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, turning it over to coat both sides. Let it rise for one hour in a warm area.
7. After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a loaf and place in greased bread pans.
8. Allow the loaves to rise for another 30-40 minutes.
9. Preheat the oven to 350 F (175 C) and bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
10. Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter while warm.
