Ingredients
8 ounces elbow macaroni
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1 jalapeño, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
Cook the macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then whisk in the flour until smooth. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and chopped jalapeño. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and mix in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until melted. Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni and pour into a greased baking dish. If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top. Bake at 350F (175C) for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
